David Mitchell played upright acoustic bass in high school and took up sideways electric bass when he was asked to play in a working blues-rock band. He drifted away from playing music for several years and took up acoustic bass again in 2007 when he joined the ensemble “Tangerine Swing” playing swing and jazz standards.Laura Johnson approached him to inquire if he would like to join the band for her and Kevin Armstrong’s 2012 production of Jesus Christ Superstar to play electric bass. David says “it was a great learning experience to play with so many talented and enthusiastic musicians.” When Laura and Kevin asked him to play in this production of RENT, there was no hesitation to work with them again.
